Finally, the wait is over, for the first time Ping have produced a classic series of blade wedges for us blade aficionado’s out there. Not only is it a blade, the head is also forged from 8620 carbon steel.
The forged head was quite a surprise for us, given that most of the market leading wedges these days have cast heads. The forged head does give the Ping Glide a great feel off the face and according to the numbers on our Foresight GC2, seems to also provide plenty of backspin even on shorter shots.
The wedges have beautifully thin, classic blade like soles which makes the wedge very versatile for a variety of condition. The sole is also cut away slightly in the heel which will allow you open the face a bit more without creating a bounce problem resulting in thinned shots. The bounce angle is at 10 degrees in the 50, 52, 54 and 56 degree lofts and at 10 degrees in the 58 and 60 degree lofts.
Ping added 13 grams of heavy tungsten weighting in the toe of the wedges. This moves the center of gravity more towards the middle of the club face for improved feel and stability.
The wedges have also been machine milled at the back, giving them a very classy, distinctive look. They are all fitted with Golf Pride Velvet grips and heavy Dynamic Gold shafts, which is a very popular shaft choice amongst your blade manufacturers.
